Eastern OOSH is committed to being a Child Safe Organisation, where every child has the right to be and feel safe.
The safety and wellbeing of all children come first and foremost, and we believe every child has the right to a childhood that is safe, secure and full of enjoyment. We believe that all children have the right to rest and leisure and aim to provide an environment where children are free to explore and play.
We commit to providing an environment where we educate and empower our community to keep children safe. Children will be supported in having a voice and empowered to speak up with any concerns they or others may have.
We will ensure all employees of our service understands and upholds their role of mandatory reporting and will continuously work to ensure there is clear awareness between appropriate and inappropriate behaviour concerning adults and children.
To keep children safe, we commit to:
- Implementing the 10 Child Safe Standards.
- Providing a safe and supportive environment for all children.
- Making sure that children are not exposed to any form of harmful conduct of abuse.
- Empowering children to participate in decisions that affect them and share any concerns they may have.
- Making sure children know who to approach if they feel unsafe or have any child safety concerns.
As a child safe organisation, we commit to:
- Educating everyone involved in our organisation about what it means to be a child safe organisation, so that we can prevent, detect and effectively respond to child abuse.
- Making sure everyone involved in our organisation knows how to appropriately respond to complaints, allegations, disclosures and breaches to our Child Safe Code of Conduct.
- Welcoming feedback to continuously improve our child safe policies, procedures and practices.
- Making sure that when family and community members interact with our organisation, they are aware that child safety is everyone’s responsibility, and their behaviour aligns with our child safe practices.
- Valuing the diversity of all children and families in our community, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children with disability or additional needs and children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
